The Alienware m15 R7 15.6 is a gaming laptop with the performance and power to play even the most demanding games. It uses the latest Intel processors and Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics to deliver high-end gaming. The laptop also has an updated Cyro-tech cooling system that improves heat dissipation and keeps the CPU and GPU cool enough for consistent high-performance gaming.

The m15 R7 is one of the heavier laptops we’ve tested, but it doesn’t feel cheap or flimsy. The chassis is made of plastic, but it feels sturdy and does a good job of handling the weight of a powerful gaming machine. The Dell also has a more substantial keyboard and a bigger touchpad than most other 15-inch gaming laptops. Its ports are also more plentiful than those of other premium laptops, including an HDMI 2.1 port and USB-C with Thunderbolt 3 support.

On our benchmark tests, the m15 R7 performed well. We ran Grand Theft V (1080p, Very High settings) and the m15 R7 got 95 fps while the MSI Sword 15 and Asus TUF Gaming F15 tied for second place at 90 fps each. The m15 R7 did slightly worse on our Far Cry 6 benchmark (1080p, Very High settings), scoring 84 fps while the Sword 15 and TUF Gaming F15 both beat it with scores of 70 fps each.

Another aspect of the m15 R7 that impressed us was its impeccable display. The 15.6-inch LCD panel has a native QHD resolution (2,560 x 1,440-pixels) and a 240Hz refresh rate for a smooth image without any noticeable tearing. The screen also supports Nvidia’s G-Sync feature, which reduces tearing by locking the framerate to the refresh rate of the monitor. There is an option to upgrade to a 4k OLED display with a 165Hz refresh rate for a sharper image but that would significantly increase the cost of the machine.

Despite its excellent performance, the Alienware m15 R7 has some weaknesses that keep it from being an ideal gaming laptop. The most significant issue is the IPS screen’s backlight bleed, which causes a yellowish glow around certain areas of the screen, similar to sun glare on a bright day. It’s not a problem for most gamers, but it’s something to consider if you plan on using the laptop in a dark room.

The Alienware m15 R7 is an excellent choice for gaming, but it’s expensive and heavy compared to other premium laptops with similar specs. The Asus XPS 13 is a much lighter and more portable alternative that also has an excellent display and an up-to-date keyboard, but it lacks the processing power of the Alienware m15 R7. The HP Omen 17 is another good option that’s less expensive than the m15 R7 but still offers solid performance and an excellent display. It’s also more comfortable to carry around than the m15 R7 and doesn’t have any serious flaws in its design.
